Junior golfers shine on beautiful Herkenbosche Golf
After more than eight months without tournament golf due to COVID-19, the international Global Junior Golf tour has started again at Golf & Country Club Herkenbosch. With more than sixteen tournaments on the horizon in Germany, Denmark, Spain, Portugal and the Netherlands, it promises to be a great year for talented golfers between the ages of 12 and 21.
Golf & Country Club Herkenbosch is beautifully situated and is a major test for the youth players due to the high rough and fast greens. This is reflected in the scores. Only two players have managed to score under par so far.
Mart Karsenbarg, player of DGC de Gelpenberg in Aalden, was -4 after 14 holes and finally brought in a score of 71 (-1) after three late bogeys. Two players are chasing him with only one stroke difference: Hidde van Breukelen and Darcy Peeters are both level par after 18 holes.
With the girls, the German Therese Steinberg managed to bring in the same score. She is closely followed by the Dutch Britt op de Winkel (De Pan) who brought in a score of 75 (+3).
In the category with players under 14 years, Kian de Roo (NL) of the Drentsche Golf & Country Club leads after a round of 80 strokes (+8). After the first round, he is already six strokes ahead of Jonathan Scholten of the Koninklijke Haagsche.
The Holbox Junior Open is one of the two tournaments that Pro Golf Events organizes in the Netherlands for the German Global Junior Golf. “We are very happy that we can organize this tournament again on this beautiful course and with the right partners” says Martin van der Schans of Pro Golf Events.
